How to quickly identify key information on container doors?

As a core link in international logistics operations, container door information contains core content such as container owner identity, technical parameters and safety identification. Accurate identification is the foundation for ensuring cargo transportation compliance. The following are 9 key information analysis points:

  • Container Owner: Identify the company to which the container belongs through the owner code (such as COSCO China Ocean Shipping, MAERSK Maersk). If dual logos of related companies appear (such as COSCO Group and Florence), the actual container owner needs to be confirmed as a subsidiary.
  • Identification Plate: Located in the lower left corner of the door, the "ID card" contains TIR number, CSC safety certification number, maximum gross weight (MGW) and tare weight (TARE) stipulated by ISO, etc., which is the core basis for ship officers to inspect container cargo suitability.
  • Container Number: Composed of "3-digit owner code + 1-digit type code (U regular/J detachable/Z trailer) + 6-digit registration code + 1-digit check code", uniqueness ensures global tracking.
  • Size Type Code:

    1st digitLength2 (20ft), 4 (40ft), L (45ft)
    2nd digitHeight2 (8.5ft non-high cube), 5 (9.5ft high cube)
    3rd digitPurposeGeneral/Refrigerated/Open top, etc.

  • MAX. WT./GROSS: Total weight (container + cargo), unit kg/lbs, must be strictly observed to prevent overload.
  • TARE: Container's own weight, used to calculate actual cargo capacity.
  • PAYLOAD: Maximum cargo capacity = MAX. WT. - TARE.
  • CU. CAP/CUBE: Maximum volume, affects cargo storage plan design.
  • Seal: One-time lock, unique seal number matching the bill of lading can verify that the cargo has not been unpacked.
